Happy Dog Sculpture (Der Gluckliche Hund)
3″ in height, or 7.62 centimeters
Unfired Clay, Created July 8th, 2022
by Bonnie Lee Turner
This small sculpture of a happy dog presents an intriguing blend of form and texture that invites analysis from multiple perspectives.
I created this figurine of a dog with exaggerated proportions, particularly in the limbs and head, to suggest a playful or stylized approach. This can be effective in conveying personality or emotion.
The choice of a white, textured surface gives the work an almost ephemeral quality. The matte finish emphasizes the tactile nature of the form, inviting touch while simultaneously creating a sense of fragility. This duality can provoke thoughts about the relationship between strength and vulnerability in animals, or perhaps even in broader terms of existence.
This Happy Dog Sculpture was part of a series of figurines created as a public art project during an Artist Residency in Horb, Germany during the summer of 2024.
