Proud Aunt Em Portrait

Portrait of Aunt Em and her Dean. (My Niece, and her new (my great) Nephew. He’s hr own little living doll and she couldn’t be more in love or enthusiastic about being his Auntie. She makes me laugh and cry just thinking about it! Loving him, the way that I loved her, from the moment that I first saw her. So when your precious Niece begs her Auntie to paint a portrait of her and her beloved, you say “YES, of course, my love!”.
I created this Pastel Portrait as a gift for her recent Birthday. It was her ‘very favorite picture’ of them – though I had to laugh and think, that as I’m painting it, that by now, there are probably another 45 or 1045 new favorite pictures she has of them.
I like the addition of the reflections in the glasses, making it both symbolic and surely adds and arty aspect to the piece. I hope that it will be a blessing to her always, and perhaps she’ll gift it to Dean some day. 🙂 One the back of the frame, I attached a copy of a post that she wrote – her declaration of her love to him… so precious. It adds to the provenance for sure.
I love how she loves him. I love how proud she is to be his Auntie, and I love how from day one, he could feel her love and he too loved her. (He beams whenever he sees her) I know that their love will only continue to grow. It makes my heart sing!
